SGshop Review: Is It a Safe and Good Singapore Taobao Agent?

SGshop is the “most reliable & cost effective taobao agent” since 2011(their words, not mine) and they are dedicated to provide reliability, safety, cost effective and outstanding service. As the name implies, SGshop serves the Singapore and Malaysia market. It is not equipped to act as an agent for other international buyers.

In this review we will guide you through all major SGshop services and discuss the pros and cons of using this platform.

#1. Is Their Website Easy To Use And Navigate?

Exploration of SGshop begins on the homepage. First stop is an alternating full-screen graphic about fairly uninteresting topics: an incentive program to earn SGD$30; economy airfreight options; economic shipment by sea; the phrase SGshop “Easy Click”; details on order self-collection points at Japan Home stores; and an outdated Mother’s Day contest.

The most accessible feature of the SGshop website is its Shopping Guide, an interactive powerpoint-like demonstration similar to what high-end shopping agents like BuyChina offer.

#2. What Service Do They Offer?

Two specific services are available from SGshop: “Ship for Me” and “Buy for Me”,

“Ship for Me” offers no agency intervention in a customer’s direct order to China other than receipt and forwarding of goods. There is no service charge for this process.Yoybuy,another taobao agent,provides the simliar service.

“Buy for Me”, on the other hand, offers full agency support, including communication with and purchase from third-party sellers on Taobao (or similar), with consolidation/repacking of goods for shipment, and representation of the customer to the vendor in the event of post-sale issues. All these helping-hands come with an SGshop service charge from 4-8% of the goods’ cost + domestic shipping.

Pre-shipping photography and through inspection are available at an extra charge, as is a vacuum-pack service to minimize the shipping volume of bulky soft items like pillows or stuffed toys.

You get SMS notifications about successful credit top-ups into your account, when there’s a problem with your order (specifications, shipping, etc), when payment has been confirmed, when the order has arrived in SG, etc.

#3. Which Payment Method Do They Support?

Ordering and payment to SGshop take place in an online account environment much like the one that large western ecommerce sites use, with the familiar shopping cart, account access and customer profile. iBanking, Visa, MasterCard, UnionPay International, eNets and PayPal are all options with which to top up balances. The majority of these are subject to extra transaction fees.

As with most Chinese shopping agents, two separate payments are required, the first following arrival of all goods at the SGshop warehouse, and the second, covering the international shipping charges, upon dispatch of goods to Singapore.

#5. How Is Their Customer Support?

The Customer Service team obviously places great importance on the provider-customer relationship, offering extended business hours (Monday –Friday til 8:30pm, Saturday til 5pm), a customer service phone hotline and email address, even an office/warehouse address in Singapore together with public transport details. A personal email address of an SGshop colleague is a contact for all “complaints and compliments”.

  1. Please don’t go for SG Shop, they can actually miss out one of my big item which they already charge for the shipment and delivery, the online chat don’t bother to help to resolve and ask you send a official email which they don’t bother to response.

    Also the charges and weigh input is not accurate and items was way overly charge. Will not use them again

    1. They are a scam. They were unable to process my order after 2-3 weeks of delay. Asked if I wanted to cancel. I canceled and requested a refund. It has been 3 months of chasing and they still have not refunded me. I would now need to make a police report.

    I bought a pet pram and made 1st payments as per their instruction. I called Customer service to guide me how to make 2nd payment. The customer service officer named Johnny mislead me on the instruction and ended up buying 1 more item. They refused to refund me.

I went there and their warehouse staff told me that the office is closed already. I came a long way to Ubi ave to pick up the item . I will delete my Sg shop account and I’m willing to spend legal fee to sue Sg shop . This is totally a breach of Fair Dealing Act!

  5. I have used the agent to shop form TaoBao since 2012 and have tried SGshop and EZbuy service. I have to say in terms of agent service, SGshop is not bad.

    Shipping speed: SGshop>EZbuy
    Normally I use Air shipping for the purchase within 10KGs. I really like SGshop Express Air which normally only takes 1 day from China to Singapore and it’s very reliable then EZbuy. For Normally Air, SGshop and EZbuy almost the same which takes 2-3 days normally. For shipping speed, I choose SGshop.

    Shipping Charge: SGshop=EZbuy
    Not much different.

    Purchase Speed: SGshop>EZbuy
    My order normally will be placed within 2-4 hours after paid from SGshop within working hours. If order placed after 6pm, only can be placed for next day. EZbuy also quite fast normally order can be placed within a day for non-peak season. But for peak seasons like 11.11, SGshop is much faster than EZbuy.

    Local collection or delivery: SGshopEZbuy
    I believe most of shopper agrees this as you always hard to reach EZbuy customer service when you have problem. SGshop response is ok at least I can get reply within 2 days.

  6. Was their premium SVIP member, used to be good. Now, not only do they fail to satisfy customer’s needs, experiences have nosedived into negative zone. Upon suggestion, I decided to check ou recent ratings I googled for “sgshop review” and read the Google reviews. Am shocked and yet not surprised! Shocked because others’ experiences are worse! Not surpriseg because I encountered similar negative experiences,,,,

    Nontransparent inconsistent policies, really hidden convoluted obsfuscated and creative reasons and charges from sgcare, inspection, value-add services, insurance, creeping/inflatwd/repetitive domestic shipping, administrative charges, etc…: You wont know upfront but as your order becomes listed as “problematic order”, all the charges, price discrepancies, increases in domestic shipping, etc.

    Also, their classification of items are arbitrary and inconsistent- their reclassification show their rules are so arbitrary and ambiguous.

    In addition, everything from books, magazines, toys, IT/electronics/electricals WITHOUT battery/cable/power supplies, tools, toys, apparel, and anything that has a label/logo).. cannot go by normal air. Either lemgthy sea shipping or expensive “special air”

    Then, if you decide not to continue, you incur charges… and surprisinglt popped up like toadstools after a rain all the deductions, with the final refunded amt will have been deducted by returned domestic shipping, admin charges, etc They even madeThis is befpre considering the long time lag/delay.

    The final straw that broke the camel’s back is the unprofessional customer service staff who do not bother to understand your concerns but speak down to you as if you are an idiot, beat their chests crying self-righteously, blindly (faithfully) citing company policy as a magical mantra as a shield..

    “…so what if you am a premium SVIP member, we have many other VIP who spent even more than you….”; (well, why then have a loyalty VIP program only pay lip service to?

    “… we practise equal treatment even if you are premium member… ” (while egaitarian.treatment is appreciated, they should really learn from SQ.. say your frequent flyer miles or your premium raffles class seat mean nothing but plain water across the board.)

    “..after you combine your orders, as long as on different dates, even if during promotion of no service charge, you incur further service charges.” (To think combining orders actually help them too!)

    “… it is our company policy…..” (The ubiquitous shield stronger than Captain America’s shield… when asked the rationale, you are clawed with Wolverine”s fangs”

    “.i am sorry that cannot….” (If say sorry, then really mean it! Insincerity stinks and smacks of the worst Hollywood, Bollywood, K-drama formula scripts)

    “..now it is not easy to buy from others (not ez to buy from ezbuy)..” (gee, they displayed a poetic flair)

    “….if you want to compare with other competitors, then go buy from them…”. (Well, sure, i have chosen to forgo all the points accrued and switched)

    “….i dont want to waste time to call my COO, because he will always tell us to tell you to write in. .” You have to send in an email as if you have to submit an imperial edict to seek an audience with the emperor! Despite writng in and even furnishing your contact details with express explicit request to talk to him, you receive a canned, cookie-cutter standard reply. The paragraphs and syntax dont even sync or link! Maybe really earned enough or am milking us as much as the business model lasts before bursting or superceded by Alibaba

  9. I buy from many agents before. SGshop is the slowest so far. It take 3 days to place an order for you even at non peak period. Don’t bother to use them when there are periodical taobao promotion like 11.11, 12.12 etc. they won’t be able to catch them. Not to mention delivery: Take almost a week to arrange for a bluport collection and have to pay $3 extra for that service. Their service hotline is useless, their answers are always nothing can be done. When come to speed, Ezbuy are so much more efficient and cheaper but they do have their own complaints too.
